Over 200 people attended the Western Dance and Barbecue Fundraiser Friday October 22 for the benefit of the Comfort Golden Age Center. The Golden Age Center is a local nonprofit founded in 1976, with a mission to provide opportunities and resources to those over age 55 in the Comfort area, in the areas of physical and mental health, nutrition, education and socialization. The proceeds from this event exceeded $50,000, and set a new fundraising record for the organization. Jane Perilloux, president of the board for the Golden Age Center announced Friday night that an agreement has been reached to purchase land on Highway 473 as the site for a new Senior Community Center. All proceeds from this event will be used for the acquisition of the property and building of the new center.
Schatzie Norris, chairwoman for this event, and her committee which included Karen Martin, Dinah Johnson, Ida Edmiston, Jill Boyter, Kathy Bohn, Evelyn Rolfe, Kelly Dizdar, Deb Gessner, Cathy Winkler, Sandy O’Connor and Margaret Stone created a fun evening of games, prizes, music and good food. The Golden Age Center is deeply grateful to the Community and all those that attended and supported this successful fundraiser, as well as the generous donors and staff who made this event possible. Sponsors for the evening included Paul & Jaydean Urban, Guaranty Title, Paul & Shelly Pankratz, Bud & Paula Neubauer, Robert & Teresa Chamberlain, Marian Willenborg, Bohnert Properties, Bohnert Lumber & Supply, Bacchus Caves, Nancy Mallow Moorman, Dinah Zike & Ignacio Salas, Humara, Craig & April McDonald, Gary & Barbara Lindner, Elmer & Jean Burow, Ruth Zoeller, and Alfredo & Yolanda Arizola.
